The Problem

After establishing a strong foundation with a custom-designed report template the previous year, BFC needed this year’s annual report to build on that success – delivering fresh, updated content while maintaining brand consistency. The challenge? Giving the new report its own distinct presence while adhering to the template.

The Solution

Using the custom template system I developed the previous year, I took full ownership of producing BFC’s FY24 annual report, leading every stage with thoughtful updates that honored the brand while introducing subtle shifts in color and layout to distinguish it from the prior edition. I proactively added QR codes to each program page as clear, interactive calls to action, inviting readers to engage as volunteers, supporters, or foster parents.

From start to finish, I was responsible for all aspects of the report’s creation, including:

  • Project management: I independently coordinated with staff and contractors to collect all necessary content and ensure the project stayed on schedule.

  • Content development: I sourced, created, and/or curated every piece of report material, including leadership letters, program outcomes, donor lists, impact stories, and financial statements.

  • Visual storytelling: I carefully selected inclusive, on-brand stock photography aligned with BFC’s service population and commitment to justice, equity, diversity, and inclusion (JEDI), then edited and color-corrected each image to perfectly reflect their brand guidelines.

  • Data visualization: I designed clear, accessible graphics that brought agency values, financial data, and program outcomes to life.

  • Copywriting and editing: I wrote and/or refined the majority of the report’s copy to ensure a compelling, clear, and on-brand narrative voice throughout.

This comprehensive, end-to-end approach resulted in a visually striking and strategically aligned annual report that effectively communicated BFC’s mission, programmatic impact, and financial position, while also driving new engagement through thoughtfully placed interactive CTAs.
